Mustafa Islamic Center provides an Islamic Community Center for the people of the Permian Basin, utilizing the best values to provide a reliable environment and education to the next generation. Mustafa Islamic Center strives to meet the community’s various needs by providing educational, charitable, and community-oriented services. MIC invests in the next generation by providing growth and leadership opportunities for youth and young professionals, establishing spaces for various demographics to come together, and expanding those spaces to accommodate the needs of men and women throughout the community. MIC is able to achieve these goals through the generosity of its community but also seeks to make its finances self-sustaining through various income-generating projects.
Collective morality is expressed in the Qur’an in terms of equality, justice, fairness, brotherhood, mercy, compassion, solidarity, and freedom of choice. Leaders are responsible for applying these principles and are accountable to God and man for their administration.
The Mustafa Islamic Center is a mosque and nonprofit religious organization founded in 2022 after years of great effort from Ejaz and Salma Butt. It is located in Midland, Texas, and serves as the largest Islamic Center in the Midland-Odessa area. The population of the Midland-Odessa metropolitan area is estimated to be over 350,000 as of August 2022 as it continues to grow yearly, as does the Muslim community in the area. The area includes the cities of Ackerly, Goldsmith, Midland, Odessa, Stanton, and surrounding small towns. The MIC is run by a group of community members who work diligently and with transparency to enhance peaceful interfaith relations with the greater community, grow the functioning and services of the mosque, and increase funding for the mosque services. The MIC, in operation since July 2022, is located on the corner of Andrews and Woodcrest on Highway 191 in a purpose built building with a parking area, separate women’s and men’s prayer areas, a children’s play area, and a cafeteria/common area. Current activities offered in the MIC are daily prayers, Jummah prayer, and Eid prayers. As next steps, the mosque community aims to focus on a Sunday school for children and to gather funds to ensure a smooth running of the mosque.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire” (Hadith, Tirmidhi). He also said that Allah offers relief on the Day of Judgement for those who give sadaqah: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be their charity” (Hadith, Tirmidhi).
